Implant Crowns

Implant Crowns

When you get a dental implant, your dentist will always recommend getting an implant crown so your teeth can look and function like natural ones. You’re free to eat whatever you want without fear! If you recently had a dental implant and would like to get a crown placed over it, Terry Family Dentistry is happy to help.

What are the Different Types?

There are two main types of implant crowns dentists use.

  • Cement retained – These are attached to abutment teeth with dental cement and gives the best aesthetics. A cemented retained implant crown is simple to attach, and the cement means that it will be permanently attached to the abutments.
  • Screw retained – These are secured to the implant with a lingual screw and occlusal. The crown will have a hole on side with the lingual and occlusal screws. This makes it possible to attach it directly to the implant with a fixation screw. Screw retained implant crowns are easier to remove for maintenance, cleaning, and repair

How Long do They Last?

They’re known to be a permanent solution for missing teeth. With proper care, your implant crowns should last between 15 to 25 years, depending on what kind you have. Be careful about doing activities that can cause the crown to crack or become loose. Overall, take care of them as if they were your own teeth so they can last longer!

What are the Advantages?

Implant crowns are a popular dental procedure for a reason! Patients are encouraged to get this procedure after a dental implant for the following reasons:

  • Functions like a natural tooth
  • Preserves tooth spacing
  • Prevents face from sagging after tooth loss
  • Lasts for decades
  • Saves money on other dental procedures
